While your planning your Halloween fun this season, let Haunters Digest recommend some haunted attractions you must see this season. While it’s impossible to say who is the best haunted attraction, we have comprised this list based on those haunts we feel will provide a great haunting experience and fun environment for all those that visit them.
Universal has just sent us quick update letting us know that next week, they will unveil the all-new TV spot for Halloween Horror Nights XX: Twenty Years of Fear. This years commercial is directed by the directors of “Daybreakers”, Peter and Michael Spierig. Reminding everyone that this year’s commercial will give you a glimpse of Fear – the master of everything Halloween Horror Nights has ever been and will become! Be sure to view this special sneak peek video inside as we eagerly await this years reveal!
Those “crazy” characters from the “Dent Schoolhouse” have created a great opening night video of their staff singing Queen, “Don’t Stop Me Now”. It’s like a demented High School Musical from hell. Be sure to give it a quick watch. You will be happy that you did!
Many inside the haunt industry have heard of Randy Bates and his haunted attraction “The Bates Motel and Haunted Hayride”. We recently did a interview with Randy to talk about his attraction. Recently he has announced that he is currently working with the property owners of the former Pennhurst State School and Hosptial in order to open a new haunted attraction there by their request. Unfortunately, it’s meet with some resistance from local residence that live close to the property and from an advocates of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities that claim this type of attraction exploits and brings a negative attitude toward those that suffer from real mental health disorders. Many haunts in the industry that have a “Asylum” theme have experience this form of criticism and complaint, but Bates points out that this attraction is not meant to be offensive. It’s their intention that this be a positive event to help preserve the property and support the local area.
One of the best jobs at a Haunted House, outside of being an actor, is that of the make-up artist. They are responsible for taking your normal everyday person and transforming them into whatever dead or demonic character that is required. So we’ve had a request that we find more tutorials to help those starting out, to hone their craft. So we have provided this video tutorial on how to paint a realistic looking prosthetic wound for all your victim characters. Atari has announced that they are releasing this coming September a re-imagining of the 1981 classic Atari 2600 game, “Haunted House”! For those that are old enough to remember this title, which may be the first ever survival horror video game title, a entirely new generation of players will be able to experience this new version via digital download on the Xbox LIVE Arcade, Nintendo Wii, and PC platforms.
Thursday afternoon, Universal Studios Orlando held a conference call with several media outlets to offer a chance to speak with T.J. Mannarino, Director of Art & Design for Entertainment, and Michael Aiello, Writer and Show Director. They took the time out their busy schedule to answer several questions about this years Halloween Horror Nights 20 Years of Fear and what visitors have to look forward to this year and beyond.
